I am a Senior Lecturer of Political Science at the University of Jyväskylä, with a secondary affiliation at the Research Council of Finland Centre of Excellence in Law, Identity and the European Narratives (Eurostorie) at the University of Helsinki, and at the Planet Politics Institute. I am also an associate editor of Arendt Studies. Previously, I have held several visiting appointments, most recently at Oxford (2024) and Cornell University as a Fulbright Scholar (2022).
My work focuses on the conditions of democratic politics, political theory, and security. Recently, I have been writing about the role of factual knowledge in politics, the impact of the planetary ecological crisis on the human condition, and resilience. More broadly, I specialize in twentieth-century and contemporary political and democratic theory, particularly the thought of Hannah Arendt (see bio, publications, and publications by theme for more details – publications in Finnish are listed in suomenkieliset julkaisut):
